CalMAX Update: Spring 1998 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
by Kevin Taylor, CalMAX Co-Coordinator Welcome to the spring 1998 edition of the CalMAX catalog. In addition to the new Board member noted on the preceding page, several other changes and events are taking place here at the Integrated Waste Management Board that will provide new opportunities for CalMAX users. Advertising in CalMAXAs mentioned in the last catalog, we will be publishing two special editions of CalMAX in 1998. The first will focus on construction and demolition (C&D) debris/materials, and the second edition on organic materials (landscaping, food waste, etc.). For these special editions, we are accepting paid advertisements to help offset the costs of publishing and mailing. To increase the circulation of the C&D edition, we will be distributing it from the CIWMB booth at this years Western Builders Show in June at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. We will also be teaming with the "Blue Book" (a regional reference book for the construction industry) to mail it to many of their subscribers and listers. If you are interested in placing a business advertisement in one of these two special CalMAX editions, please contact us at (916) 341-6603. We will be accepting ads for the C&D edition only until the first week of May, so don't wait! More on Listings RegionsThe last issue also mentioned an initiative to simplify the material listing process by limiting the number of regions selected when you place a listing. We feel it would alleviate some confusion if, when submitting an "Available" listing, you select only one regionthe one where the material is physically located. For "Wanted" listings, select the region where the material is wanted, and if the material is wanted throughout the state or outside of the state, that region should also be selected. In other words, pick just one region unless you want material throughout the state or outside, in which case you could use two or three. If you have any questions, give us a call. New Area CodesAs the number of cell phones and fax/internet lines in California increases, so does the need for new area codes. It has come to our attention that phone numbers contained in some our listings have new area codes, causing problems for users trying to call them. We do try to keep numbers up to date, but we appreciate your notifying us if you come across numbers with new area codes, disconnected numbers, or any other errors in ads. Several area codes have been, or will be, partially affected. The new codes and the date of change are:
Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) Accepting ApplicationsIf you're a business taking advantage of CalMAX, there's a good chance you should be a WRAP winner. WRAP, sponsored by the CIWMB, annually recognizes California businesses that have made outstanding efforts to reduce nonhazardous waste and send less garbage to landfills. Applications will be accepted from May 1st through June 30th for the 1998 award cycle. For more information, visit WRAP on the Web at www.ciwmb.ca.gov/WRAP/. Updated Web SiteThe CalMAX Web site (www.ciwmb.ca.gov/CalMAX/) has undergone a facelift. We feel the new look will make it easier to navigate around the site, and to search for and place listings. We welcome any comments you may have about the "improved" site or any other aspects of the program. As always, it's a pleasure to serve you, so go ahead and keep using CalMAX to improve your bottom line. Return to Coordinator's Updates Last updated: August 01, 2008 |
