In previous years, the California Integrated Waste Management Board selected one outstanding
example of business use of the CalMAX program for recognition through the "Connection
of the Year" award, formerly called the "Match of the Year."
2001 Connection of the Year
The Los Angeles Children's Museum and Gold Mine Natural Foods of San Diego
are honored as the 2001 Connection of the Year recipients.
2000 Connection of the Year
City Farmers Nursery, a nursery, deli, composting facility and environmentally friendly
company located in San Diego, CA was awarded as a long time user of the CalMAX program.
City Farmers Nursery collects wood, cardboard, metal, plastic, and other
salvageable items and puts them to various uses on the nursery property, or in planter
boxes and worm bins.
Program Note: The "1999 Connection of the Year" was
renamed "2000 Connection of the Year" to recognize the year in
which the award was given.
1998 Match of the Year
Looney Bins is a recycling and Hollywood studio services company located in Sun
Valley, California. The company salvages items when sets are torn down and markets
materials using CalMAX.
1997 Match of the Year
Executive Suite utilized CalMAX to recover over 750 tons of computer equipment while
donating a large number of personal computers to schools in Northern California.
1996 Match of the Year
Saticoy Recycling received over 550 tons of material and saved over $33,000 through
dozens of CalMAX exchanges.
1995 Match of the Year
C&H Sugar Company and Triad Energy Resources Inc. exchanged over 20,000 tons of a
filtration by-product through CalMAX which was used to produce soil amendment and
fertilizer.
