2000 CalMAX Connection of the Year
"San Diego Nursery Grows Business and Weeds Out Waste" |
||
| The California Materials Exchange (CalMAX)
program honored the unique reuse and recycling
efforts of City Farmers Nursery of San Diego, by presenting owners Bill
and Patty Tall with the eighth annual CalMAX Connection of the Year award. City Farmers Nursery is actually an eclectic mix of enterprises that include a nursery, a deli, and a soil blending operation sandwiched behind a strip-mall in urban San Diego. An environmentally friendly company on many fronts, City Farmers collects wood, cardboard, metal, plastic, and other salvageable items and puts them to various uses on the nursery property, or uses them in planter boxes and worm bins. Owner Bill Tall estimates he has received more than 7.25 tons of materials and saved over $5,500 by using the Waste Board's CalMAX program. Please review the original Connections article that describes City Farmers' accomplishments in more detail, or read the official Press Release that accompanied the recognition.
